    The loss was not only human: Dozens of ancient cities of little or no military significance Pforzheim, Wrzburg, Darmstadt, Augsburg, Nuremburg and, of course, Dresden were obliterated in the course of a few hours. Mr. Manson (like Mr. Overy, who developed the argument) is right that the bombing forced the Germans to employ men and material to defend their cities against Allied planes. (Globe and Mail)
