A visiting delegation from Concord s sister city, Nanae, Japan, capped its daylong tour of Concord by leading a cafeteria full of people in the Ika Odori (Squid Dance), a line dance made famous by Nanae s neighbor, Hakodate, a squid-fishing port town in southwestern Hokkaido. Nanae has sent a delegation here for many years, often around mid-October. (Concord Journal, MA)

Mr. Welch died of a heart attack on Aug. 13 after running to catch a train in Hakodate, Japan. He was 80 and in retirement had divided his time between Cambridge and a farmhouse outside Concord, N.H.. (Boston Globe)
