CHEYENNE -- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department plans to supplement a dwindling bighorn sheep herd in south-central Wyoming with 60 animals from Utah and Oregon, a strategy officials hope will give the herd its best chance for survival. Friend shoots hunter during bear attack Oct 16, 2009
-- A hunter attacked by a grizzly bear in southern Montana also had the misfortune of being shot in the arm by a companion trying to stop the attack. GREEN RIVER -- A huge portion of the century-old Cross Lazy Two Ranch in Sublette County will be conserved under a permanent conservation easement announced this week, officials with the Green River Valley Land Trust said. The historic property to be preserved under the easement includes a portion of the Lander Cutoff route to the Oregon Trail, which was used by as many as 500,000 pioneers as they migrated west. At one point last week, the Mills Fire Department was without a fire chief, an assistant chief, and a captain. The department has weathered turmoil since late spring, seeing the ouster of a fire chief, the resignation of his replacement, and a handful of policy disputes between younger firefighters and older leadership within the department. His appointment alleviated some of the stress on the department, and town officials say they're now looking ahead at hiring another fire chief with the help of Casper Fire Chief Mark Young.
