    General says lower flight ceiling needed  Dec 3, 2008
    Gen. Leon Rice from the Air National Guard in Massachusetts made his case during the last public hearing on a proposal to lower the flight ceiling from 2,800 feet to 500 feet over the Condor Military Operation Area that includes Bethel, Rumford, Rangeley and Farmington. The 3,600-square-mile training area is used by F-15 pilots from Massachusetts and F-16 pilots from Vermont for maneuvers and mock dogfights. (Seacoast New Hampshire)

    Hearing set for W. Maine flights  Dec 1, 2008
    The Massachusetts Air National Guard has proposed that F-15 fighter pilots be allowed to fly as low as 500 feet in the Condor Military Operation Area, a 3,600-square-mile area that includes Bethel, Rumford, Rangeley and Farmington.     Maine papermaker laying off 250 temporarily  Nov 25, 2008
    RUMFORD, Maine NewPage paper company says it will lay off about 250 employees at its Rumford mill starting Dec. 8 ... In Rumford, paperworkers union Local 900 President Gary Hemingway estimates that 250 to 270 workers will be affected by the layoffs, which will run through early January. (Seacoast New Hampshire)

    NewPage to cut 664 mill workers, most in Wisconsin  Sep 2, 2008
    Outside of Wisconsin, NewPage is shutting down a paper machine in Rumford, Maine, leading to the loss of 60 jobs, and closing a converting facility in Chillicothe, Ohio, resulting in about 160 layoffs. Some of the work at the converting facility is being transferred to other locations, including Wisconsin Rapids, but the company did not say whether any jobs will be added at those locations.
