(AP) _ The federal government is "reconsidering" its 1993 approval of the compact that allowed the Oneida Indian Nation to open the Turning Stone casino in central New York, according to an Interior Department letter sent to the tribe and Gov. Eliot Spitzer. The March 15 letter from department Deputy Solicitor Lawrence Jensen gives the two sides until April 30 to notify the Interior Department they've begun negotiations on a new gaming compact. The nation is so profitable that even if none of its lands were put into trust and the nation had to pay property taxes, the nation's survival would not be jeopardized, concluded Gregg Jarrell, an economics and finance professor at the University of Rochester.
