The Upperville project was the first of several traffic calming projects on the 20-mile stretch of Route 50 from Paris in Fauquier County to Lenah in Loudoun County. According to VDOT, the projects are being done in order to slow traffic, improve safety for pedestrians and motorists, and "help preserve the historic and rural nature of the corridor."
