Possible closures, mergers for schools Oct 5, 2008
The schools -- Holy Family in Hazlet, St. Joseph in Keyport, St. Ann in Keansburg and Mother Teresa Regional in Atlantic Highlands -- have seen combined enrollment slip by almost half in four years. The four schools combined had an enrollment of 990 in the 2004-05 school year and now have 566 students. (NJ.com -- Times)

Stolen car recovered; N.J. woman charged Aug 16, 2008
A check of the vehicle confirmed that it was stolen from Red Bank, N.J., and the driver of the vehicle, identified as Cindy L. Messina-Donadio, 45, of Atlantic Highlands, N.J. was taken into custody, authorities said. Messina-Donadio was charged by State Police with 3rd degree criminal possession of stolen property, 3rd degree unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana. (Catskill Daily Mail, NY)

Each day during the two-week cruises, the team of six scientists and ship s crew head out from the Atlantic Highlands Marina to the study sites, approximately 5 to 10 miles offshore. Working in depths up to 60 meters (about 100 feet), they use the various real-time data they receive from above and below the surface to develop a track line or sampling route of the ocean floor within their study areas. Your best access to the Raritan Bay waters is the Municipal Ramp in the Atlantic Highlands and the ramp at the Keyport Marine Basin. If you are looking for a pier to fish, the Keansburg Pier is a good choice, especially toward the end of the month. (NJ.com -- Times)

Through Sept. 30, Seastreak offers two round-trips a day on Saturdays and Sundays from Pier 11 in the South Street Seaport to Sandy Hook, with boats leaving Manhattan at 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. and returning at 3:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Adults, $33, round trip; children, ages 5-12, $18. The historic site, located at Mount Mitchell, a part of the Monmouth County, N.J., Park System in Atlantic Highlands, N.J., is a tribute to the 147 residents of that county who lost their lives on 9-11. Freibott was fired from the Middletown Township Police Department in 2001 after a minor accident outside an Atlantic Highlands tavern for failure to have a valid driver's license, but the state Merit System Board later ordered him reinstated. Since transferring from the Middletown police department to Jersey City in 2005, Freibott had no accidents before Tuesday night's incident, according to Jersey City police spokesman Stan Eason.
