Use performance metrics to evaluate storage efficiency  Nov 19, 2009
MTBF: Mean time between failures indicates reliability or availability. MTTR: Mean time to repair or replace a failed component or storage device. (Search Storage)

RAID's Days May Be Numbered  Sep 18, 2009
Given that what RAID vendors see for MTBF is often half of what drive vendors see, hard error rates are lower than what drive vendors report when the drives are put into RAID disk trays, with the need for both high performance and dense packaging increasing vibration and heat. All of this means that the hard error rate is beginning to become a big factor in MTDL (Mean Time before Data Loss) as a part of rebuild, given the amount of data moved and the density of the drives. * [ TECHNOLOGY ] Time to get serious about SSDs  Sep 17, 2009
Its not uncommon to see MTBF (minimum time before failure) ratings of 1,000,000 hours for current SSDs ... Thats on a par with the MTBF ratings of traditional spinning platter hard drives. (Taipei Times, Taiwan -- World Business)

New Industrial LCD Panels With 100,000 Hour MTBF LED Backlight Systems From Toshiba America Electronic Components  Aug 26, 2009
Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)* announced new color active-matrix, thin film transistor (TFT) LCD modules for industrial applications with long-life, light-emitting diode (LED) backlight systems with a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)(1) of 100,000 hours (approximately 11 ... "In 2008, ahead of all competitors, TMD started volume production of a new series of industrial TFT LCD panels with an LED backlight system rated for 70,000 hours MTBF at ordinary... (PR Newswire)

Determining the number of drives in a RAID group  Aug 8, 2009
Vendor data sheets tell you just about all you need to know about storage arrays and disk drives: raw capacity, throughput (usually in MB/sec), IOPS, reliability (MTBF), and drive type (SAS, SATA, FC, etc) ... I also recommend RAID 6 for SATA storage solutions since you'll see twice the failure rate of SATA drives compared to SAS or FC according to MTBF stats from manufacturers. (Search Storage)

NEC's Ultra Compact Microwave Communications System, PASOLINK, Selected by Turkey's Avea to Support the Growth of Mobile Backhaul Solutions  Jun 30, 2009
Furthermore, an exceptional MTBF (Mean Time between Failure) of more than one hundred years, achieved through the NEC Group's integrated production system, ensures the product's long term reliability. The rapidly increasing number of mobile phone subscribers and individuals accessing mobile Internet services require swift creation and support of microwave communications systems and quality infrastructure.
