Rachel's Challenge is an assembly program based on the life of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. LAKE Last Friday, Brian Parkman was orchestrating a student assembly program at Lake Middle School designed to encourage students to think about college choices early in their academic careers, while elsewhere in the building, he encouraged teachers to decorate their doors with collegiate themes of their choices. It is the largest high school assembly program in the United States. "This is not to scare anyone. It really just teaches us that we don't want this to happen again," said Amber Leaman, a physical-education and life-skills teacher at Viera High who, along with the Junior League of Brevard, was instrumental in bringing the program to the district.
