    The man apparently hit his head on the reef while surfing at the Banzai Pipeline surf spot off Ehukai Beach Park at about 3:15 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman. The waves were about 6 to 8 feet at the time, Cheplic said. (Honolulu Star-Bulletin)

    The fifth round, quarterfinals, semifinals and final were all run today at the Banzai Pipeline in wave-face heights that ranged from 3 to 8 feet. Sullivan held the lead for most of the 30-minute final, and secured the victory with a perfect score of 10 for a long barrel ride with around 13 minutes remaining. (Honolulu Advertiser)

He's been called the "Prince of Long Beach," which quite frankly he's not crazy about, and he's also been called "The Natural."
