Clark Yee, 29, was charged with possession of stolen property, commercial burglary and two counts of filing a false police report after he showed up at a South San Francisco golf store and traded in the stolen clubs, San Mateo County prosecutors said. Yee, who had been the treasurer of Atherton Police Officers Association, resigned from the force soon after the accusations came to light. (San Francisco Chronicle -- Crime)

Editor -The July 16 Open Forum article by Yomi Agunbiade of the S.F. Recreation and Parks Department, regarding the Proposition J proposal to privatize the maintenance workers at the San Francisco golf courses, misleads the public by failing to disclose one important fact. The city is losing more than $1 million because of the concession contract with Kemper Sports. (San Francisco Chronicle -- Opinion)
S.F. JUNIOR GOLFBerkeley player wins storied title Jul 20, 2007
" His sound course management wasn't lost on match official Bob Callan, a constant on the San Francisco golf scene who returned 50 years after he won the tournament to follow the final match. "He's a smart player," Callan said, after Hasse made a 6-footer on No. 14 for a par. "He hasn't tried to overpower the course. " Hasse, who has a 3.9 grade point average, seemed to appreciate the history of the 79-year-old tournament, too. With newspaper clippings from past tournaments filling one side of... Rain or shine, they aid business climate Jun 6, 2007
" In reality, WeatherBill's services will initially be limited to businesses with a net worth of $1 million or more. That rules out very small mom-and-pop firms. And some observers caution that weather derivatives are too complicated and risky for most small businesses. They note that weather derivatives were pioneered by Enron as a tiny part of its business during the go-go days before its collapse. "It's basically placing a bet, and you might as well go to the Preakness," said Rick Vassar, a... (San Francisco Chronicle -- Business)

LETTERS TO THE GREEN Oct 15, 2006
Editor -- Ron Kroichick's On Golf column ("When will PGA Tour come to S.F. again?", Oct. 5) quoted Supervisor Sean Elsbernd as saying, "You can't put a dollar figure on the pride of 20,000 people watching Tiger and John Daly trading shots." Actually, you can put a figure on it, Mr. Elsbernd: the millions of dollars the San Francisco golf courses are losing and are taking out of the Rec budget. The smoke-and-mirrors scheme used to finance Harding Park's renovation was based on the mistaken... (San Francisco Chronicle -- Sports)

" No question, perseverance will matter at Winged Foot again this week, given the degree of difficulty. The course now plays at 7,264 yards, significantly longer than it did in 1974 (when it was 6,961 yards) and way longer than A.W. Tillinghast (who also designed San Francisco Golf Club) probably imagined when he designed the course, which opened in 1923. The course now features nine par-4s of 449 yards or longer and one par-5 (No. 12) of 640 yards. That's the second-longest hole in U.S. Open... (San Francisco Chronicle -- Sports)
Whitten: Is Winged Foot still fit for a fight? Jun 9, 2006
His bunkers at Baltusrol look nothing like those at San Francisco Golf Club, and neither of those courses resembles his work at Brook Hollow in Dallas. Nobody gave more thought to more aspects of golf architecture than A.W. Tillinghast. (ESPN -- Golf)
Locals Nagle, Coe head Lake Merced qualifiers Jun 7, 2006
" Nagle was joking, of course, but his trip to Winged Foot counts as improbable. He was not highly recruited out of Serra and chose the University of Illinois partly because a high-school teammate had gone there a year earlier. Nagle also missed the last four weeks of his recent college season with a hand injury. But he advanced through a local qualifier in Indiana, shot 73-67 amid the fog and chill at Lake Merced on Monday and then joined the playoff. He secured his spot by making pars on Nos....
