Marshall football put on the full pads for the first time on Saturday, August 9, and several hundred Herd fans showed up to watch the "Hoot-N-Holler" drill, usually a first-day highlight. But in an effort to stay away from the kind of injuries Marshall sustained in the 2007 season, "H-N-H" was only seven series and hardly a starter was seen in the drill that resulted in just two scores. Senior receiver , red-shirt freshman defensive lineman Chad Clay and true freshman running back removed gloves, shoulder pads, jerseys, UnderArmor t-shirts, thigh and knee pads in demonstrating the nearly $1,000 per player it takes to dress out the 105 members of the Marshall football team. Three ladies were very disappointed to find out assistant equipment manager Zach Littleton wanted back the $105 game jerseys taken off the players, with help from the women in the front rows.
