Melrose wasn't any more qualified to be behind a bench in the NHL today than he was way back in 1993 when his Los Angeles Kings couldn't find away to rebound from a simple illegal stick penalty during the Stanley Cup Final against the Montreal Canadiens. For starters, any coach who knew what he was doing wouldn't have had a player, especially a player like Marty McSorley, on the ice with a crooked stick late in a game his team was leading by a goal on the cusp of going up 2-0 in the series.
