In 1956, Lew Hoad met Ken Rosewall for the championship of Wimbledon and the Australian Open, while teaming to win the doubles title in each. Over the years, other Aussie doubles teams found themselves facing each other for a major singles title, including Fred Stolle-Roy Emerson and Rod Laver-Neale Fraser (Tony Roche and John Newcombe, for all of their great success in doubles, never met with a major singles title on the line).
