    This feature is true not only for other indigenous belief systems like Buddhism and Jainism but also faiths like Islam and Christianity that came to India from West Asia. The multiplicity of faiths and their federal structure prevented any one of them from imposing a specific vision of faith on the rest and create monolithic religious communities.
