Other places, including Bear Lake, operate more on the honor system if there aren t inspectors around, boats owners can simply say they haven t been in infested waters for 30 days or that they ve dried their boats or had them decontaminated.     Woman in parasailing mishap still hospitalized  Sep 10, 2009
    The 17-year-old boy was preparing to take off from a ledge near the mouth of the San Juan River on Monday morning when complications with the sail sent him careening toward his mother, according to authorities at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. His mother, 42, who was also on the ledge, became entangled with the sail and was dropped to shore 10 feet below where she landed on her head. (AZCentral -- News)

    According to authorities at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the boy was preparing to take off from a ledge about 10 feet from the waterline Monday when complications with the sail caused the boy to go sideways when the boat started moving. The boy's mother was somehow entangled with the sail and dragged for a short distance before she dropped down to the shore and landed on her head, according to authorities. (AZCentral -- News)

    ASU students work to develop motor for Grand Canyon rafting  Jun 1, 2009
    The Grand Canyon River Outfitters Association has given grants to the engineering departments at ASU Polytechnic, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona and University of Utah to develop alternative motorboat technology for commercial river operations at Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Each year, about 100 motorized rafts make a total of about 425 trips down the river, hauling about 14,000 passengers, according to the outfitters association. (AZCentral -- News)
