At the suggestion of DesignLine site editor Jack Shandle, we embark this week on a teardown of a gyro-based mouse: Gyration's $150 ProGo Gyrotransport (which includes a free-space mouse as well as 1 Gbyte of "playing around" within the separate transceiver dongle on the host PC). For those unfamiliar with this sort of product, it's a fairly easy-to-use pointing and control system based on free-space movements and gestures. (EETimes)

To upgrade would have cost another 160 dollars and turned it into a build to order, which meant waiting weeks for it and not being able to inspect for faults before delivery.
