In the 2003 season-opening Daytona 500 and eight weeks later in the EA Sports 500 at Talladega, Newman and his No. 12 Dodge went for some wild rides -- a pair of frightening end-over-end rollovers that likely would have killed or seriously injured a driver 20 years ago without the safety equipment that NASCAR uses today.
