Pilgrimage to the shrine of Rock and Roll  Jul 13, 2008
When people talk about Rock and Roll the towns that come to mind are places like Memphis in Tennessee, where Elvis Presley cut most of his groundbreaking records, or Detroit in Michigan, where punk pioneers the Stooges and MC5 started their revolution, or New York, where almost everything happened in the mid 1960s. The ultimate reason for the museum being constructed in Cleveland was money. (Jakarta Post, Indonesia -- Features)

Moving on with their lives ...  May 18, 2008
My dad's favorite, favorite, favorite band is (the) MC5; she would just tag along to go with him. "They were truly social butterflies and had a more active social life than a 21-year-old. Their weekend consisted of dinner parties, meeting friends at a local bar or barbecuing at the neighbors' house.". (The News-Herald)

Music: Mudhoney still making music 'for the fun of it'  Nov 1, 2007
Ash, who also occasionally adds his vocal prowess to the reunited Detroit rock legends the MC5 (now known as MKT/MC5), says the band's Classic City concert is a "make-up" performance for a show missed last year. "We were going to play Birmingham and Athens last year, but I was asked to join the MC5 for a European tour, so we had to scrap the shows," says Arm, who adds that Mudhoney hasn't been to Athens "since our last full-on van tour east of Chicago in 1998 or 1999." "So we're heading back to... (Athens Banner-Herald)

Speed leaves F1 for ARCA  Oct 17, 2007
Bumping into Speed at Toledo is akin to meeting the conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra backstage at the old Grande Ballroom on Grand River, where the MC5 and the Stooges once reveled. But here he was walking across the infield, wearing a black hooded jacket, torn-up white jeans and plaid baseball cap, and going unrecognized by fans and officials. (Columbus Telegram, NE)

Birds of a feather rock together  Jul 16, 2007
Radio Birdman, the Sydney band who modelled their uncompromising garage-rock sound on two legendary Detroit bands the MC5 and The Stooges, are in the second category ... Tek, who had a collection of unreleased and banned records by the MC5 and the Stooges, introduced them to their key musical influences ... Tek asked Younger, Gilbert and former MC5 drummer Dennis Thompson and Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton to join him for a "little quickie" tour of Australia. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)

Slobodan Stole My Summer  Jun 6, 2007
Taking their name from the Stooges' "1970" and their 200-mph stage presence from the MC5, the band had a focus on keyboards that alternately recalled the Doors, early Blue Oyster Cult, and the grime of one-hit garage rockers. Guitarist Deniz Tek and powerful singer Rob Younger did fine work on their own after the group split in 1978, but it took until 2001 to have the band's legacy properly represented in the States, with The Essential Radio Birdman (Sub Pop). Gore Gore Girls make rock a go-go  Apr 14, 2007
The band's sound is a delicious distillation that combines potent elements of Motor City's signature sounds: the '60s girl group pop of Motown , the gritty garage-rock sensibility of old-guard acts like the MC5, and newer Detroit stars such as the White Stripes and Detroit Cobras. "When I first formed the band, I was listening to Black Sabbath and the Ventures and wanted to build a creepy, heavy, '60s kind of thing" -- hence the band's preferred onstage uniform of miniskirts, go-go boots, and...
