Season's Readings Nov 28, 2008
As Harvard undergrads, he and two friends founded Galaxie 500, which became a darling of the late-1980s alternative-rock scene in Boston and New York. But amid business disagreements and conflicting egos, Wareham quit that band and founded another. (Boston Globe)
Titus Andronicus Mix Shakespeare, 'Seinfeld' And Jersey Angst 'In The Funnest Way Possible,' By John Norris Jul 16, 2008
If all this angst has led some to slap Titus Andronicus, who cite Minor Threat, Galaxie 500 and Neutral Milk Hotel among their influences, with the dreaded "emo" tag, Stickles can live with it. "We're from New Jersey, it's inevitable," he reasoned. (VHI.com -- Music News)

Making (and losing) the band Mar 9, 2008
Tales of Galaxie 500, Luna, love, and loss ... Which brings us to the book's even more apt subtitle: "A Rock & Roll Romance." People say that bands are the ultimate dysfunctional family, but both of Wareham's late, lamented musical endeavors - the seminal slowcore band Galaxie 500 and dream-pop heroes Luna - were more like doomed love affairs ... He says that watching "Tell Me Do You Miss Me," the documentary film that chronicles Luna's final tour, is "like watching a person go a little crazy."... (Boston Globe)
Wareham's favorites, past and present Mar 9, 2008
Musician Dean Wareham shares suggestions for essential tracks from his former bands, Galaxie 500 and Luna, and his current duo, Dean & Britta. Galaxie 500 (left): My favorite Galaxie 500 album is the first one, "Today," recorded in three days at Noise New York and produced by Kramer ... It contains my favorite Galaxie 500 songs: "Temperature's Rising," "Tugboat," and our interpretation of Jonathan Richman's "Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste." REQUIRED READING Mar 9, 2008
by Jonathan Coe (Knopf)The latest from the acclaimed British novelist is a family saga which has its roots in the Blitz, when 8-year-old Rosamond is evacuated from London. If I don't wake him soon, we'll have a new pool. (New York Post -- Opinions)
Luna's Last Stand Apr 29, 2007
As the last chord rang out and the lights came up following a brilliant finale of Black Postcards, Tugboat (from Wareham's pre-Luna project, Galaxie 500), I Can't Wait, and Indian Summer, the crowd shuffled out clanking empty beer bottles underfoot and safe in the knowledge they hadn't seen the last of workingman Dean Wareham and his mates. It was just the last of Luna, as the night went down in history. (VHI.com -- Virginmega.com Music News)
A night of bewitching ambient pop with duo Dean & Britta Mar 12, 2007
Dean Wareham is best known as the founder of hypnotic, slowcore pioneers Galaxie 500 and Luna, while partner Britta Phillips also was in Luna ... To quote one lyric, "The night time is sweeter than a dream" from "Since I Lay My Burden Down." The night built in quiet ecstasy to Galaxie 500's "Hearing Voices," Luna's "Chinatown," and Galaxie's "Tugboat.". (Boston Globe)
'Numbers' adds an intimate touch (Adam Mazmanian) Feb 27, 2007
Instead it feels like progress Mr. Wareham marshaling his experience as a frontman for independent rock bands Galaxie 500 and Luna in the service of a new genre alternative easy listening ... Remember that pioneering student band Galaxie 500 was a creature of the late 1980s. (Washington Times)
On the new 'Some Loud Thunder' (Adam Mazmanian) Jan 30, 2007
Though not larcenous by any means, the two-minute song "Arm r" is redolent of Pavement's "Speak, See, Remember." CYHSY is one of those rare bands like the Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Galaxie 500 and Pavement that astonish not so much with musicianship as with deft orchestration. It is impossible, not to say unsatisfying, to imagine their songs any different from the way they are recorded. (Washington Times)
Wear your heart on your sleeves Jan 29, 2007
It takes time and effort to put a mix tape together,' writes Dean Wareham, leader of the short-lived, but quietly influential, art-rock group, Galaxie 500, in a book called Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture, which was edited by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. The time spent implies an emotional connection with the recipient. (Guardian Unlimited -- Arts)
