News and Articles on Electronic Keyboards

Keane gets bigger and better  Oct 14, 2008
The chilly electronic keyboards underscoring the weary observations of "You Haven't Told Me Anything" recall both the New Wave and the New Romantics. And, of course, there are plenty of widescreen anthems that offer spiritual questioning ("Perfect Symmetry") and uplift ("Again and Again") that pretty much everyone has cribbed from U2. Practice, practice  Oct 11, 2008
But Sagov has made most of his music in the home studio, using electronic keyboards and computer programs to play everything from penny whistle to piano on dozens of self-produced solo albums. Out of Africa  May 18, 2008
Even Mulatu, a sophisticated international, turns out to have been unaware of the rippling electronic keyboards of Sun Ra that so much resemble his own. His principal western inspirations were, he says, the orchestral styles of Gil Evans and Duke Ellington - the latter he famously met and worked with when the Ellington band was touring Africa, staying a few days in Addis. Herbie Hancock rides on the 'River'  Feb 6, 2008
His use of electronic keyboards in jazz was groundbreaking, and he's even had a couple of hit singles. The Recording Academy likes to honor longtime veterans almost as much as it does newcomers, as it has with Ray Charles, Tony Bennett and Eric Clapton -- all of whom won album of the year in the last 15 years -- so Hancock would seem to have an edge over his fellow nominees for the big honor. Zion-I On The Island  Sep 10, 2007
Versatility has been Zion-I's hallmark; its sound has stayed fresh in part because of the members' willingness to experiment, whether with nature-inspired musical tones, clubby electronic keyboards, bluesy acoustic guitar loops or street-legal hyphy slaps. "We listen to everything. I grew up on punk and house music, then I started getting into hip-hop. It's stayed with me," says Amp, who's known for improvising MPC-3000 beats onstage, adding another dimension to Zion-I's live set. (San Francisco Chronicle -- Entertainment)

Herbie Hancock, musical chameleon  Jun 23, 2007
Hancock, after all, was one of the first jazz musicians to embrace electronic keyboards, using electric piano in 1968 with the Miles Davis Quintet before moving on to clavinet and synthesizers with his own group. His 1983 hit Rockit not only used a computer to co-ordinate his bank of synthesizers, but managed to be the first (and perhaps only) jazz single ever to make regular rotation on MTV.. (Globe and Mail)

Vince Clarke in wonderland  May 22, 2007
Like most of its predecessors, it is very much music of the city -- tight pop songs with pulsating dance beats and hook-filled melodies carved with drum machines, electronic keyboards, and computers. So it is a little startling to learn not only that the album was recorded in a house in Maine but that Clarke has put down roots here, making his home year-round in a tiny town an hour north of Portland. (Boston Globe)

Rock Band Instruments  May 9, 2007
In addition, both Roland Corporation - famous for its electronic keyboards - and effects pedal maker BOSS have also agreed to have their brands featured within Rock Band. "The Stratocaster has been the weapon of choice for many of the world's legendary guitarists. Giving players the opportunity to rock out using a guitar peripheral modeled after the Strat really adds to the authenticity of the experience," said Alex Rigopulos, president and co-founder of Harmonix. Some readers claim similar experiences, while others cast doubt on phenomenon  Feb 19, 2007
"But these recordings on this website follow a pattern, of certain notes struck at a higher strength, which one some electronic keyboards can bet set to trigger sounds like string sections, organ sounds, or even as here, a patch that sounds like a chorus of people singing. You can even go so far as to have these voices annunciate 'oooh,' 'aaah' and 'da' sounds, too. And as I have spent many an evening goofing around with these effects with our keyboard player, it sounds too much the same to be... (WorldNetDaily)
