Violin and blues  Nov 28, 2008
" The resulting aural collage incorporates the sounds of rock guitars, cellos, violas, flutes and entire orchestras. Many of his own compositions, like "Float Downstream" from his "Mist on the Mountain" solo CD, quote the Beatles or other bands from the '60s. Castle also burns down the house with his verson of cover tunes like "Man in the Box" by Alice In Chains, "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple and "Voodoo Child" by Jimi Hendrix. And don't forget the bluegrass classic, "Orange Blossom... (Anchorage Daily News)

Beyonces alter ego good, too  Nov 24, 2008
The power ballads "Life on the Moon" and "Mr. Sensitive" should prove even more durable than the smash "The Time of My Life." He stretches boundaries creatively with the metallic, grinding "Bar-Ba-Sol" -- part Pearl Jam fist-pumper, part Alice in Chains slither. Somehow, "David Cook" matches its creator -- a little unfocused but brimming with potential and so much likability that the faults get forgotten. (Erie Times-News, PA)

    Aldean aims for a heavy-metal hoedown  Nov 22, 2008
"Amarillo Sky" and "Hicktown" both featured heavy grunge grooves, and "She's Country" sounded like the band had just returned from an Alice in Chains riff sale. Kurt Allison and Mike Frey ended "Who's Kissing You Tonight" with harmony guitar leads, after which Rich Redmond offered up an appropriately pointless drum solo that he capped by kissing his biceps. Beyonce Album Preview: I Am ... Sasha Fierce Shines Light On B's Alter Ego  Oct 24, 2008
" But Beyonc? may have integrated these sides of herself far more than she realizes, for the I Am ... portion of her album is actually the more daring side, since it requires more bravery to step outside what she's known for uptempo top-40 R12; and try for a more timeless sound in a classic sense (perhaps the influence of playing ?). And Sasha Fierce, fun though it might be, is mostly familiar-sounding dance tracks and doesn't stretch Beyonc? as an artist the way I Am ... does. "If I Were a Boy"... (VHI.com -- Music News)

David Archuleta gets a manager  Oct 8, 2008
But while it was one song and out for Andrews, other guest stars lingered longer, like Juliette Lewis who commanded the stage and channeled singer Exene Cervenka with a song by '80s punk band X, and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who brought back that warm, fuzzy, early-'90s flannel feeling with "Man in the Box," a classic from his band, Alice in Chains. But the most anticipated (and not the least bit disappointing) moment of the night was the show's closer, Billy Idol. (CNN -- Showbiz)

Jagermeister Taps Hinder To Headline Fall Music Tour  Oct 7, 2008
Performing in the vein of Nickelback and vintage Alice in Chains, Rev Theory is the perfect band to round out the bill and they couldn't be more excited to hit the open road. "We are so pumped to be a part of the Jagermeister Music Tour!" says Julien Jorgensen, guitarist for Rev Theory, "Jagermeister has been a big supporter of our music from the beginning and we're psyched to take our relationship to the next level.". Heavy metal band The Drylung Whiskey Binge returns to its Syracuse roots  Sep 22, 2008
Mahar has an edge in his voice comparable to the late Layne Staley of Alice In Chains fame. The band's music has an organic metal feel much like local heroes Brand New Sin, and it shows a hunger to succeed. (Daily Orange, NY)

IGN Rocks the House of Blues : Rock Band 2, Panic at the Disco, and free drinks?...  Sep 9, 2008
Since we had to wait our turn to get up on stage, we only had a chance to try a few songs, including Eye of the Tiger, One Step Closer by Linkin Park, Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, and Man in the Box by Alice in Chains. Not a bad set for us overall, but considering there were plenty of people in line, we had to give up our guitar with very little (but some) kicking and screaming to be had. (IGN PS2)

Concert review: 3 Doors Down  Aug 26, 2008
Taste is a very subjective thing, however, and the opening bands worked perfectly satisfactory, frozen in amber faultless performances, even for a jaded rock critic who wishes that Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice in Chains hadn't had quite the influence they now wield, however warped from its original intentions. Oklahoma City's Hinder used their set of by-the-numbers rock to perfect their even more by-the-numbers stage moves, as much '70s hard rock bluster as '90s angst. (Edmonton Journal)

Metallica's James Hetfield Says New Bassist 'Has Already Contributed More' Than Jason Newsted Did  Aug 6, 2008
Before replacing erstwhile bassist Jason Newsted in 2003, Trujillo played with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Black Label Society, Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell and Ozzy Osbourne. Trujillo, as you might imagine, couldn't wait to contribute to Metallica's newest material, after spending years on the road with the band, playing bass lines someone else came up with. Rock Music Menu: Johnny's still pretty Rotten  Jul 26, 2008
"It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business," he told Norway's VG TV. "Like (Alice In Chains singer) Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there. Thinking about death...just like a magnet, some people are drawn towards it; other people are afraid of it and push away." Prescription for addiction: Man's struggle with opiates led him on a path to destruction  Jul 23, 2008
His ambition to play guitar, bass and percussion was overshadowed by his fascination with the musicians whose genius and mystique seemed to relate directly to their drug use Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, Alice in Chains' Layne Staley and Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon, all of whom died of drug overdoses and reportedly led tormented lives of addiction. I had all these aspirations, but ultimately my love for music and art couldn't compete with my love for dope, Bagley said. (Missoulian, MT)

Rock Music Menu: 'Gits' get the rock-doc treatment  Jul 7, 2008
Drug addiction and suicide was responsible for bands like Mother Love Bone never hitting its stride, and kept Nirvana and Alice in Chains from ever getting the chance to fade away instead of burning out. But perhaps the biggest misfortune befell the up and coming act The Gits, who might very well have led the second wave of alternative rock in the Pacific Northwest were it not for the brutal murder of singer Mia Zapata. (The Delaware County Times, PA)

You also say on your MySpace site "I've always believed that if someone listens to your music and can immediately relate to what you're saying, you have made an impression that will stick with them!" Do you feel like you've made that kind of impression on your fans. (Florida Times-Union)

Another stab at immortality  Jul 10, 2007

Where peers like Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots have maintained a steady presence on radio stations, and the glow that often sticks to former giants, Smashing Pumpkins have suffered a dizzying downturn in their... Like the Whigs, Moon Maan run their grooves along the seamy underbelly of rock, but with less sex and more menace, as on the hazy, almost Alice in Chains grind of "Feed the Methman." And where the theremin makes appearances, as on opener "Be Good to Me," it bathes the swagger and sweat of the track in a ghostly haze of science fiction. (City Pages)
