Kings' right royal riffs Sep 24, 2008
Tracks from Only By the Night could well be mistaken for new offerings from the likes of U2, Springsteen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Afghan Whigs, Blue Oyster Cult or even Led Zeppelin, such is the return to a classic sound. Yet the band has produced an album that is still very much its own, displaying the uncanny ability that allows it to create different sounds on each new release without completely eradicating its distinctive feel. The Sub Poppiest Albums In Sub Pop History (According To Sub Pop), In Bigger Than The Sound Jul 13, 2008
An album more than three years in the making, full of morose and melodramatic ruminations on life, death and the afterlife, by Lanegan and former Afghan Whigs lothario Greg Dulli. If you like the dark and desperate places the Whigs (who, I'm just now noticing, are strangely missing from this list) went, or the windswept desolation of Lanegan's stuff, well, then you probably already own this one. At Paradise, the Gutter Twins play out their hearts of darkness Mar 20, 2008
One minute the former Afghan Whigs singer was exorcising his demons on churning, electric noir tracks like "God's Children" and "Front Street" with a cracked, soul-infused howl. The next he was needling the audience. (Boston Globe)

Ex-Screaming Trees, Afghan Whigs Frontmen Record Duet Record ... More than 15 years after his closest sideswipe with fame, Lanegan seems primed to reiterate the song's point with a new band -- founded with fellow '90s couldabeen, Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs -- and a new album, "Saturnalia." This time, the pair is hoping their combined efforts will allow them to finally grab that brass ring. (KSBW 8, CA)

We're sorry we forgot all of these Nov 23, 2007
The Afghan Whigs 1965 (1998) Take 1965 as an alternative universe version of Let's Get It On: you find singer Greg Dulli wrestling with alcohol, drug and sex dependency, much like his hero Marvin Gaye. With a filmic eye for seamy detail, Dulli lines his demons up one by one and stares them down. (Guardian Unlimited)
Review: Apple's iPod Touch Is Best Media Player Ever Made Sep 14, 2007
I searched for the Afghan Whigs and only had to type in AFG for them to appear at the top of the list. Clicking on their name brings up a screen with albums and songs to choose from. (Fox News)
Seen Your Video Aug 22, 2007
"By that time, the videos were great, but they certainly weren't the cool Afghan Whigs or Soul Asylum videos that we had done earlier. They were artists that, in years prior, we would have turned down. I'd rather do music videos for an artist that we would go buy an album from.". Neither Harder nor Fuller ever moved away from town, where they credit a rich film community with sustaining them. (City Pages)
Tucson, Phoenix bands merge Jul 25, 2007
filters the melancholy grandeur of Radiohead's OK Computer through a vocal style gritty enough to trigger flashbacks to the Afghan Whigs' best work on the epic A Punch to the Nose. The soaring guitars that punctuate Until We Crack take the sound in a more accessible and/or stadium-rocking direction without sacrificing any of the mystery. (AZCentral -- Entertainment)

Suddenly, The National finds a whole new world of fans Jun 22, 2007
That album, all baleful stealth, psychic drift, and hung - over epiphanies, would eventually be lauded as a rock masterpiece echoing artists as stylistically varied but spiritually similar as the Afghan Whigs , Nick Cave , and Leonard Cohen. But things didn't start out so gloriously good. (Boston Globe)
Theremin Thrash Jun 20, 2007
Underpinning the mostly straight-ahead classic-rock vibe of former Afghan Whigs guitarist Rick McCollum's current project is a most unorthodox instrument: the theremin ... The extension out from slide guitar makes sense, since one of McCollum's most notable contributions to the Afghan Whigs was his excellent slide playing, which is a prominent element of Moon Maan's sound ... With the support of Catlick Records and the fortuitous timing of the recently released Afghan Whigs retrospective,... (City Pages)

Local bands keep 'Rodfest V' thriving Jan 23, 2007
Taking the stage wearing rubber masks of former presidents George Bush and Ronald Reagan (face wear was, apparently, an ancillary theme of the night), the smarmy, hedonistic Kalvin Koolidge came across like Ween goofing on the Afghan Whigs -- or maybe the other way around. The Scituate trio roared and pimped its way through an unhinged set that sounded like a radio dialing through '80 s-style arena metal, B-grade action-flick soundtracks, and Greg Dulli side projects. (Boston Globe -- Living)
