    Hillerman's tales deserve a cinematic telling  Nov 8, 2008
    Still, what filmic adaptations were attempted proved unworthy: a long big-screen version of his novel The Dark Wind, starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Chee; and made-for-TV Mystery takes on Thief of Time, Skinwalkers and Coyote Waits (Adam Beach as Chee and Wes Studi as Leaphorn aren't bad, but the movies feel flat). Of those Hillerman books, Coyote Waits cries out loudest to be remade as a feature film, possibly with a Navajo director (like documentarian Tony Estrada) or John Woo (who helmed the...
