    Culture Club  Jul 1, 2008
Hitchcock s Vertigo just hit its 50th anniversary, even though it doesn t really seem like an old movie ... But few movies are as dreamy as Vertigo, from the heavily filtered photography, to the plot - which is, let s face it, as ridiculous as the plots of most dreams - to Kim Novak s strange, somnambulist acting style to the terrible logic of the film s climax ... Vertigo was a financial disappointment, for which Hitchcock blamed James Stewart s age - he never worked with Stewart again. (The Palm Beach Post)

    QUICKSILVER FOX  Jun 5, 2008
Those recurring themes make this a comedy of obsession like Hitchcock s Vertigo, only The Wedding Director isn t just meta, it s quicksilver: playfully self-critical. When you realize that Bellocchio has worked out a series of sketches that detail a filmmaker s celebrity status and artistic insecurities, the film s challenge becomes as funny as it is always visually elegant. More Than Just Average  May 15, 2008
Of the great performances, "Vertigo" is a standout, but two other Hitchcock performances are as well. Few ever point to "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956) as one of his best movies, but he beautifully conveys the sense of a dead marriage in his scenes with Doris Day, just as he subtly and inoffensively suggests a burnt-out sexual attraction for Grace Kelly in "Rear Window" (1954). Anthony Hopkins to Play Alfred Hitchcock  Nov 10, 2007
I know all about the movies and had a closer look at why he set that shot up in the way that he did and the skill and rhythm of his movies like Rear Window and Vertigo. "He was really quite astonishing and there's so much wit to his work."I think those scenes between Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window are so witty and sophisticated. (Hanford Sentinal, CA)

Movie Review: ‘Vacancy’ delivers good scares, compelling set, effective drama  Apr 26, 2007
Although the obvious Hitchcock homage here is the mother of all lonely motel-themed slasher pictures Psycho, the film s major psychological motif echoes Hitch s Vertigo, as Jimmy Stewart s character Scotty in that movie has to deal with a massive guilt trip. In Disturbia, the other Hitch knock-off from last week, the main teenage character, Kale, has one as well. (Lompoc Record, CA)

Despite its stars, slasherfest 'Vacancy' is not up to snuff  Apr 20, 2007
In fact, this one opens with a clever title sequence and Bernard Herrmann-like score that evokes memories of "Psycho," "Vertigo" and "North by Northwest," and most of the movie takes place in a crazier, bloodier, updated version of the Bates Motel. But the similarity to the master ends in the first reel, and despite one or two imaginative scenes and stronger-than-usual performances (especially Frank Whaley as the malevolent motel manager), it is a fairly routine exercise in New Millennium movie... (Seattle Post Intelligencer)

Scorsese joins the club  Feb 26, 2007
Alfred Hitchcock's best films "Notorious," "Rear Window," "Vertigo" and "North by Northwest" weren't even nominated for best picture. The film he made that won, 1940's "Rebecca," is an over-stuffed drama bathed in respectability by the presence of Sir Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. (Los Angeles Times)

John Patterson: Oscar's greatest crimes  Feb 23, 2007
Not for Notorious, not for Rear Window, nor Vertigo nor Psycho nor The Birds. The best anti-Valentine's Day movies  Feb 12, 2007
Alfred Hitchcock's best film "Vertigo" is an eerie story of sexual obsession that will unnerve you to the point of canceling whatever dates you have in the near future. Perpetual Boy Scout Jimmy Stewart plays Scottie, an acrophobic private eye, who becomes obsessed with his client's wife (Kim Novak) and - after a series of events I don't particularly want to spoil - becomes obsessed with her lookalike (also Novak). (The Crimson White, AL)

    A menacing buzz  Jan 20, 2007
Herrmann arrives in 1955 to begin a celebrated nine-year collaboration that peaks in the astonishing triptych of Vertigo, North by Northwest and Psycho ... And it cannot be a coincidence that so much of the music for Hitchcock films seems to be reaching towards an ideal of disembodied, wordless voices - from Waxman's explicitly named "ghost orchestra", supplemented with electronics, for Rebecca, to Rosza's use of the spookily wailing Theremin in Spellbound (thus instigating a thousand...
