    MFA series focuses on epic age of Russian cinema  Aug 31, 2008
    Although the series will feature canonical works like Eisenstein's "The Battleship Potemkin" and Andrei Tarkovsky's "The Mirror," it will also highlight lesser-known genre films like the 1934 musical "Jolly Fellows" and the 1959 Kalatozov "The Letter Never Sent," a film that was influenced by American Westerns.     Shostakovich turns up elsewhere in the form of his 10th symphony and first violin concerto and, in the Kaleidoscope series, his music for the silent film The Battleship Potemkin. Richard Hickox, the musical director of Opera Australia, will conduct an all-Vaughan Williams program, including the original longer version of the London Symphony.
