Theres an old theory in Russian history called "pale rider/dark rider." He usually falls, and is replaced by a dark rider and that's what happens in Tsar. (Newsmax)

Clint and Angelina Bring a Child to Cannes  May 21, 2008
Since 1985 this Hollywood legend has brought five films to Cannes not as special screenings, where he has nothing to lose, but in the ego-bruising competition for the top prize and the first four times (with Pale Rider, Bird, White Hunter Black Heart and Mystic River he's gone home empty-handed. It's not that the old cowboy needs another trophy: he's twice won Oscars for best director and best picture, with Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. (Time.com)

The first was in 1985 (the year of Pale Rider, one of only two Clint Eastwood westerns these past 30 years); the second in the early 1990s, led by Dances With Wolves; the third in 2003 (when Costner returned to the genre with Open Range). Avenging Angel  Jul 6, 2007
Owing a debt to pics ranging from "Shane" to "Pale Rider," this not-so-original movie introduces Sorbo as a preacher who watches his wife and child's murder by the minions of land baron Col. Cusack (Wings Hauser), headed by his snarling henchman Quinn (Nick Chinlund, adding to a lengthy resume of bad-guy roles). It's enough to prompt the preacher -- who vaguely references killing men in the war before donning the collar -- to strap on a gun, seeking justice as a bounty hunter. (Variety)

It would pitch well, with its me-against-the-world themes (a bit Gladiator), the network's cries for help from the outsider (a bit Pale Rider), and the injection of adrenaline into the heart of a struggling network described by one Nine insider as "a madhouse" (a bit Pulp Fiction). So, what's happening with the man at centre stage. (The Age, Australia -- Breaking News)

Change is as good as arrest  Feb 12, 2007
Hot Fuzz gives it a modern twist by bringing on the firepower and doffing its cap to the kind of back-from-the-dead avenging angels that Clint Eastwood played in High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider. When Pegg comes riding down a silent village street armed to the teeth and ready for death you fear genre spoofing may have reached its limits. (Scotsman)
