Of this genre, only "Wag the Dog" has managed to channel its anger and tell a story, and that may be because Barry Levinson knows how to focus a feature film by building it up from the script. This is the festival where such movies as sex, lies and videotape, Reservoir Dogs and Clerks were first launched and a few others, like Happy, Texas and Masked and Anonymous were first hyped before landing with a thud outside the rose-colored atmosphere of Park City, Utah. Because of the ongoing writers' guild strike and the studios' need to acquire product to fill their release schedules, the guessing is that this will be a busier than usual Sundance, with some major deals likely to be signed... Others have tried this approach and failed, notably Dylan himself with 1977's "Renaldo and Clara" and 2003's "Masked and Anonymous" (co-written by Dylan and directed by Larry Charles). But Dylan's not a filmmaker, and one man's art doesn't always translate to another man's medium. (Boston Globe)
