A surprisingly strong summer for women  Jul 4, 2008
It's great to see Karen Allen back, but the fourth Indy adventure only kicks into gear when Blanchett's Colonel Dr. Irina Spalko is strutting about barking orders like an S&M fusion of Natasha Fatale and Fearless Leader from "Rocky and Bullwinkle." She's handy with a sword, too, making her possibly Indiana's most closely-matched adversary ever. Blanchett has played more indomitable characters - Queen Elizabeth, Bob Dylan - but none this alluringly scary. (Boston Globe)

Mutt's significance, though, will be immediately obvious to everyone but Indy, especially when Karen Allen shows up as sharp-tongued old flame Marion Ravenwood from Raiders. Indy Fatigable  May 23, 2008
In a movie intended as a class reunion, Indy has to bring a wife-equivalent: his gal pal from Raiders, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen, still brandishing that mile-wide smile). Her son Mutt is a young Indy manqu; he has discipline issues, but you can be sure he'll work them out, since he's the designated hero of whatever further sequels Lucas has in mind. (Time.com)

    A stale Indy  May 22, 2008
Numbered among the accompanying complications are those indefatigably godless Russians, a double-dealing miscreant (Ray Winstone), a brain-addled professor (John Hurt), and the return of maid Marion (Karen Allen). The latter provides Indy and us with a rather geriatric love-interest; all the rest are fuel for the customary chase scenes on (or above or beneath or beside) the customary fleet of speeding conveyances. Review: Indy's 'Crystal Skull' Smart, Fun  May 22, 2008
Turning in his college specs for his fedora, leather jacket, khakis and bullwhip, Indy and Mutt dive into the thick of the hunt for the crystal skull, and aim to rescue Ox and Marion Williams -- who turns out to be Indy's old flame Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen). The reunion of the former lovers adds a huge emotional wrinkle to the physical rigors that lie ahead, since Spalko and her comrades are after the crystal skull, too, but obviously for more devious reasons. 'Indiana Jones': Lost Kingdom, By Kurt Loder  May 22, 2008
Ford's age and the return of Marion Ravenwood (still-spunky Karen Allen), his love interest in "Raiders," set up with the appearance of a young and rather Indy-like adventurer named Mutt (gamely played by Shia LaBeouf). Mutt enters the picture on a motorcycle, the very image, in his black leather jacket and tan cap, of the Marlon Brando of 1953 in "The Wild One"; and he quickly draws Indy into a search for the crystal skull (an actual artifact well, hoax of the 19th century).
