'Definitely, Maybe' Feb 14, 2008
Of the trio of adult femmes fatales, Weisz manages the most complexity of character, while Fisher (best known for "The Wedding Crashers") is irresistibly frazzled and, perhaps, as close to Jean Arthur in the "rom com" department as anybody here is going to get -- through no fault of their own. The script rarely rises to the challenge of providing its characters with the wit and snappy patter they need. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, PA)

Enjoying the magic of the movies Nov 6, 2007
Van Heflin was so manly and righteous and forthright, and Jean Arthur was the ultimate pioneer wife, loyal to Van but curious as hell about Shane, and what woman wouldn t be. Alan Ladd was the perfect mysterious anti-hero, he wore buckskin better than Davy Crockett, and he ruled in that climactic gun fight with little Brandon de Wilde peeping under the barroom doors and telling him to watch out for the guy with the shotgun. DeMille's 1936 epic 'The Plainsman,' about among other things a hapless 'romance' between the rather stuffy repressed unforgiving 'Wild Bill' Hickok played so perfectly by the incomparable Gary Cooper and the 'wild girl,' the infamous 'Calamity Jane' Canary portrayed in the winningest western tom-boy way by Jean Arthur, one of the best actresses of Hollywood.
