Wilco to play at UM Mar 15, 2008
The independent film, I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, chronicled the band's tribulations with the record. The band's follow-up records, 2004's A Ghost is Born and 2007's Sky Blue Sky, further cemented the group's reputation as the most adventurous roots-rock band in the modern American scene. Wilco rocks the Crossroads Oct 23, 2007
Drummer Glenn Kotche's nimble cymbal splashes propelled songs like "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart." Kotche's Cub Scout uniform was drenched by the end of the show. If his precise, powerful rhythms provided the sonic canvas, Tweedy's soulful vocals painted alternately surreal or plain air landscapes. (University News, MO)
They had us before hello Jul 2, 2007
" - is not meant to be answered. Tweedy, no follower, plots his own direction, from alt-country to experimental noise to nostalgic classic rock. Some concert-goers will shout their song requests, but that wasn't the case at Massey Hall, where a full house of rooters didn't confuse Chicago's Wilco for a plunk-dollar jukebox. What they wanted to hear was whatever their star wanted to give, in this case a solid high-mood performance that covered the bases. Briefly summarized, the show was 2005's... The fan had seen a distressed Tweedy vomiting in I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and wanted a repeat performance. (Globe and Mail -- Entertainment)
COMMENTARY: Nothing but 'Blue Skies' ahead for Wilco Apr 27, 2007
Luckily, up-and-coming film director Sam Jones was able to coincidentally capture key moments in the process through his diligent documentary on the band, "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart." ... Noticeably absent here, however, is the gently strummed, ebullient three-chord Wilco song ("Handshake Drugs," "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart," "Via Chicago") that has marked recent albums. Rock 'n' roll in rehab Apr 13, 2007
It came complete with a fascinating making-of documentary (Sam Jones' I Am Trying To Break Your Heart) and the readymade hook of Wilco being dropped by their label before the album was released, then being snapped up with great success by another arm of the same multinational. In 2004 Wilco's coronation appeared assured, with interest in the band in the lead-up to their fifth album, A Ghost is Born, surging to new levels. (The Age)
