    Stylishly directed by Bryan Singer, this caper thriller boasts one of the best male ensemble casts in recent memory including Gabriel Byrne, Stephen Baldwin, Benicio Del Toro and Kevin Pollak as desperadoes brought together for a heist by the possibly mythical crime lord Keyser Soze. The scene-stealer throughout is Kevin Spacey, who won a best-supporting-actor Oscar for his role as "Verbal" Kint, a small-time crook recounting his version of the crime to a U.S. Customs agent (Chazz Palminteri). We still love it, but its place in the pantheon makes it less sacrosanct than, say, "Psycho." The tale of John "the Cat" Robie a former jewel thief living on the French Riviera who has to clear his name after a rash of robberies puts him under suspicion has many timeless elements, not the least being the cat-and-mouse romance...
