    Hillerman's tales deserve a cinematic telling  Nov 8, 2008
Of those Hillerman books, Coyote Waits cries out loudest to be remade as a feature film, possibly with a Navajo director (like documentarian Tony Estrada) or John Woo (who helmed the exceptional Windtalkers ) or even Kevin Costner ( Dances With Wolves ) behind the camera. While a lesser work in Hillerman's impressive bibliography, the aforementioned The Sinister Pig might not make a bad motion picture, either, right down to Chee's marriage proposal in the final scene. Poetic Identity  Sep 7, 2008
It's no surprise, then, that some might imagine these poems to be a mixture of Indian themes and oh-so-earnest poetry, like "Dances With Wolves" without the funny parts. Kevin Costner hopes to get back in the swing with new movie  Jul 28, 2008
The appeal of Kevin Costner has always been his square-shaped ordinariness, if ordinary can even be used to describe a quietly cocky California native who is Hollywood handsome (tired eyes and all) and successful enough to own sprawling homes in Santa Barbara and Aspen, and a casino in Deadwood, S.D. OK, OK, it is true this movie has done more for South Dakota tourism than any movie filmed in the state since Dances With Wolves, but it just isn't as entertaining as the original. Sure, it's great fun to see the Shrine of Democracy and a little Hollywood magic conducted on area lakes to magically move one to just behind the four faces' heads, but as a popcorn movie, it simply leaves too many kernels unpopped.
