For make benefit of world peace  Nov 23, 2006
Or the stick: imagine John Bolton sidling over to a member of a certain UN delegation, slipping a screenplay into their hands, and intimating that if particular non-proliferation treaties aren't entered into, South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone will set "Team America II" entirely in their capital city. I don't know if it will work, and obviously there are wrinkles to be ironed out. (Christian Science Monitor)

'Borat' goes to America  Nov 8, 2006
An extended nude wrestling match between Azamat and Borat is about as crude as "Team America," but it's also sublimely funny, rivaling the corpse transportation sequence in "Little Miss Sunshine" for the title of the year's most hilarious comedy scene. Mary F. Pols is the Times movie critic. (Contra Costa Times -- Entertainment)

Puppets Take Manhattan  Oct 20, 2006
This gimmick might seem limited on the surface, but the puppetry (provided by the crew that created the well-received movie "Team America: World Police") was so synchronized with the actual concert that the virtual gave the actual a run for your attention. In fact, when Beck worked a slower ballad and gave the puppets a mid-show break (probably to get re-stuffed) the gig took a nosedive. (New York Post -- Entertainment)

Confused by ratings? 'This Film' rates close look  Sep 16, 2006
Matt Stone ("South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut," "Team America: World Police") testifies from experience that studio pictures are treated a lot more kindly than independently financed and distributed ones. Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry") and Wayne Kramer and Maria Bello ("The Cooler"), intuit that the raters are uncomfortable with depictions of female sexual pleasure, while Allison Anders ("Grace of My Heart") suggests that orgasms of any kind are frowned upon (although women's do tend to... (Chicago Sun-Times)

EW review: Hooray for 'Lassie'  Sep 5, 2006
Matt Stone, of the "South Park" duo, is quite amusing recalling his experiences with the indie midnight movie "Orgazmo" versus the big-studio "Team America: World Police," which was submitted with a great deal more sick puppet sex than the filmmakers ever intended to use (so that the board could pat itself on the back for nixing something naughty). The liveliest gambit in "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" was Dick's decision to hire a private detective to expose the identities of the ratings board... (CNN -- Showbiz)

"The term was coined after Stone and his co-creator, Trey Parker, accepted an award in 2001 from People for the American Way at a dinner in Beverly Hills. The audience, warmed up by an evening of lefty rhetoric, were startled to hear Stone and Parker announce they were Republicans. To those dreaming of a permanent GOP majority, this new bloc was evidence that it was indeed a big-tent party: You could vote with the Christian Coalition while watching a show that set records for profanity.Republicans... No Alternatives  Sep 1, 2006
Instead, this one-sided documentary includes interviews with people who were once jilted by the great and powerful MPAA, such as John Waters, Kevin Smith and "South Park's" Matt Stone, whose "Team America: World Police" puppet satire was forced to cut out a hysterically graphic puppet sex scene. Dick also offers no alternatives to the current ratings system. (Fox News)

    HAS-BEN IS BACK  Aug 31, 2006
Perhaps the low point came when his "Pearl Harbor" performance was immortalized in a song in "Team America: World Police": "I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school.". Affleck has spent most of the last two years largely out of the public eye, marrying Jennifer Garner, having a child and quietly returning to his roots in indie films, a standard rehab strategy for fading stars. (New York Post -- Entertainment)

Not Yet Rated asks compelling questions  Aug 29, 2006
Matt Stone (South Park) relates how he and filmmaking partner Trey Parker added outrageous footage they did not even want to the puppet sex scene in Team America: World Police, hoping they could sneak less explicit material past the MPAA.. A New History of Documentary Film; Ten Conversations with Leading Directors, Cinematographers, Editors and Producers  Aug 18, 2006
These may be doc-crazy times -- Michael Moore even gets portrayed as a suicide-bombing marionette in "Team America." But still, a docu like "Murderball" relies on the same things as a fiction film -- namely, action, drama and people (or penguins) you love, or love to hate. So where Betsy A. McLane and Jack C. Ellis, co-authors of "A New History of Documentary Film," go wrong, right off the bat, is in saying film itself is divided -- like a set of Balkan states -- into docs, narrative features... On At The Movies she is as playful, open-minded and marvellously unpredictable as ever: after all, how many other critics got as much enjoyment out of the scatological triviality of The 40-Year- Old Virgin or the riotously impolitic Team America: World Police as they did out of more serious fare such as Syriana. * Kim Jong-il's wine, women and bombs  Jul 17, 2006
Long before Team America: World Police, the 2004 film from the creators of South Park, which pilloried Kim Jong-il as a recluse plotting to destroy the world, we were familiar with images of the chubby dictator. Let life imitate art  May 23, 2006
Controversial movies like Good Night, And Good Luck and Brokeback Mountain are promoted rather than censored (although, as Team America: World Police shows, maybe some of these Hollywood celebrities need to get off their elitist soapboxes). 'Park' co-conspirators swing one fearless ax  Mar 28, 2006
" The second thing is that the Church of Scientology really is the most controlling force in our galaxy, capable not only of putting seemingly half the celebrities on the planet under spiritual contract but also of allegedly convincing voice performers who have suffered recent strokes (say, Isaac Hayes) to suddenly and inexplicably decide that their religious convictions trumped a well-paying gig. This is to say nothing of the catatonic trance in which church operatives seem to hold poor Katie... (Hollywood Reporter)
