First of all, Tom gives you big openings no matter what, which is what it's all about. You always have to be careful about what you do, no matter what profession you're in. But I don't think Tom has done anything that would change people's moviegoing habits if he's got the right material because he's a brilliant actor.". And in ending the relationship in... (Time.com)

'Talladega Nights' Puts NASCAR In The Spotlight  Aug 5, 2006
Unlike "Days of Thunder," the 1990 Tom Cruise movie that was panned by the NASCAR community and fans who found it stereotypical and unrealistic, Talladega Nights took pains to avoid that. Yes, Ferrell does race his car backward in one eyebrow-raising scene. (WRAL.com, NC)

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby  Aug 4, 2006
The Adam McKay-directed film, which he co-wrote with Ferrell, is essentially Days of Thunder played for laughs (this time intentionally). The set-up is great: (Ferrell) is a redneck speed freak who makes the leap from pit crew to racer when a driver gives up. (IGN FilmForce)

With Will Ferrell at the wheel, ``Talladega Nights'' wins you over  Aug 4, 2006
Best of all is Amy Adams, that Oscar-nominee from ``Junebug," who here plays Ricky's drab assistant. She spends the movie in thankless group shots, then in one outrageous moment that feels ripped from a speech Nicole Kidman gave Tom Cruise in ``Days of Thunder," she comes to magic, comic life. Naturally, the fleet, effortless marvels of the first 60 or so minutes prove unsustainable. (Boston Globe)

REVIEW: Talladega Nights  Aug 4, 2006
But no, it does not have a story or characters worth watching for that long. And the racing is no more interesting than it was in "Days of Thunder.". Ferrell stars as Ricky Bobby, who, like a chorus girl of old, is plucked from the pit crew and becomes a brilliant NASCAR driver. (Richmond Times-Dispatch, VA)

Reilly for the magazine's Q&A. The actor (Days of Thunder, Chicago) costars with Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights ... But this is definitely a shout-out to Days of Thunder. (SportsIllustrated.CNN)

    This film's a gas  Aug 4, 2006
But never fear: In this Days of Blunder parody of films like Days of Thunder, redemption is only a paternal mind game away. Talladega Nights may take too many similar laps, but at its best it's all an automotive frolic should be -- a gas. (SunSpot.net)

NASCAR flick aims for rolling laughter  Aug 3, 2006
" Sarah Nettinga, NASCAR director of film, television and music, said NASCAR collaborated on Talladega Nights from script development through completion. By signing off on the film with a willingness to laugh at itself, NASCAR is banking on Ferrell to open the sport to a new audience without alienating its existing one. Tom Cruise's Studio Pact Is in Question  Jul 31, 2006

    SURFING - D. Ellis  Jul 13, 2006
"Ellis eventually turned pro, earning the top 4A rating at a time when pro surfing offered little more than free boards and wax. He ultimately became a stuntman in films such as "Days of Thunder" and "Patriot Games" before transitioning into directing with 1996's "Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco. "Although Ellis' father passed away in 2000, Ellis still finds solace in the thrill of the surf. He often surfs twice a day, hitting the waves outside his Venice office before work, then at his... Ferrell vs. Cruise  Jul 11, 2006
And John has another NASCAR/Tom connection Days of Thunder ... It's funny because I feel like I got more of a real NASCAR experience on this movie than I did on Days of Thunder. (MSNBC -- News)

    Character building  Jul 7, 2006
The worst is probably Tom Cruise's character in "Days of Thunder," a race-car driver named Cole Trickle. Yes, there was a real-life NASCAR driver named Dick Trickle, but he was mercilessly needled on the Dan Patrick-Keith Olbermann "SportsCenter." If someone was going to create a fictional race-car driver, you'd think they'd go for something gutsier -- like "Steve McQueen." "Cole Trickle" sounds like he has sand kicked in his face on a regular basis. (CNN)
