MAN OF STEEL NEVER RUSTS  May 7, 2006
"Sadly, these were not the worst indignities the Man of Steel has been subjected to over the years. Prior to the production of Singer's Superman movie, the property spent a decade in development hell, with aborted initiatives scripted by the likes of Kevin (Clerks) Smith and J.J. (Lost) Abrams, and even a Superman Versus Batman throw-down as envisioned by director Wolfgang (Das Boot) Petersen. But the most galling of all, for the Superman purist, was Tim (Batman) Burton's briefly green-lit... Super season?  Apr 28, 2006
The Scouting Report: Petersen, the go-to guy for disaster flicks on the high seas (Das Boot, The Perfect Storm), apparently does not believe in computer-generated effects, so that's a real wall of water and an actual overturned ship set, albeit in a giant tank. A remake, of course, of the 1969 Poseidon Adventure, but made for a whole lot more money (a reported $175 million) on a shoot where many cast members sustained injuries. (The Palm Beach Post)

And who plunged Lucas into a simulated sunken ocean liner that he remembers as a petri dish of rushing water, panic and fiery explosions. When "Poseidon" is released in May, Lucas promises audiences will see that, aside from a tidal wave knocking over a ship, it has nothing in common with "The Poseidon Adventure" of 1972.
