The USS Makin Island Oct 25, 2009 At Naval Base, Coronado, the most recent addition to the United States Navy's amphibious assault ships was commissioned for active service on October 24, 2009. The USS Makin Island (LHD-8) is named for an earlier vessel also known as the Makin Island, a Casablanca class escort aircraft carrier (CVE-93). (Suite101.com)
CACI aids Navy with technical and software support Aug 15, 2009 SSDS is an integrated weapons system used aboard large U.S. Navy ships, such as Nimitz class aircraft carriers and various amphibious assault ships.
