It quoted former CIA officer Colin Thompson, who lauded the Hmong recruits for their loyalty and bravery, but noted that the U.S. government need not feel responsible to help those in the jungle: "It wasn't as if we dragooned them into anything ... Neighbours of the Wirrong Dairy, who were later joined by Cowra Council, took Colin Thompson and his family to court to try to stop the dairy from operating, claiming it needed development consent. However, in a judgement handed down yesterday, the court upheld the Thompson's defence that it was an agricultural enterprise, that it was not a feedlot and that it did not need development consent.
