    That prolific American novelist Mark Twain once wrote, "A classic is something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read." This may explain the absence of his classic novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, from many of CMS' AR lists. Classics such as Tom Sawyer and Jack London's Call of the Wild that traditionally have been popular among boys are all but extinct from elementary AR lists. (Huntersville Herald, NC)
