In a heated philippic, "Free Our Libraries!" posted on the website of the Boston Library Consortium, Richard Johnson, an adviser to the Association of Research Libraries, decries the "momentous, ill-considered shift . . . that threatens to limit the public rights in the collections assembled and maintained, often at public expense, in libraries around the globe.". The day after I moved into the Ambassador s Residence in Ottawa, explained Jan Cellucci, I flew to Toronto to speak at the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries. I asked the directors of the 30 national research libraries, if, during our tenure in Canada, I might visit their institutions and try to bring attention to the value and the contributions of research libraries and archives. ISU library dean pushes for funding Mar 29, 2007
According to the Association of Research Libraries, ISU's library has dropped from a 73rd-place ranking in 1995 to 88th in 2005 among research libraries nationally. That moved it lower than any other library in ISU's peer group of 11 land grant institutions. (Ames Daily Tribune, IA)
USU library conducts quality survey Mar 29, 2007
The survey is administered by the Association of Research Libraries, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization. USU paid ARL 3,000 to set up the survey in mid-March. (Logan Herald Journal, UT)
