    It couldn't possibly have been an empirical model though because such models do not exist except in the pages of the unread and unreadable journals that take up so much space in our academic libraries, while if it was a theoretical model I could construct one of those before lunch today, since obviously all I need to do is to come up with a differential equation with the 'right' coefficients.
