Roosevelt was at the time already a famous naval historian, having written the definitive work on the War of 1812. He was a passionate believer in the value of a navy in defending a nation's interests, exemplified in a speech at the US Naval War College on June 2, 1897, where Roosevelt noted that "far from being in any way a provocation to war, an adequate and highly trained navy is the best guaranty against war". Shipwreck Explorers Discover 1780 British Warship in Lake Ontario  Aug 11, 2008
I have read extensively about the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes and didn't even realize the British had a naval presence during the War of Independence. Raising the ship would be exciting, but there are two American warships from the War of 1812, the Hamilton and Scourge, which were found years ago, are smaller and still they can't decide if it is practical to raise them for a museum setting ... With the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 approaching, it might make more sense from a tourist... (Yahoo News -- Anthropology and Archaeology)

Obama Supports Global Tax From United Nations  Aug 9, 2008
Obamas plan represents perhaps the greatest affront to our national sovereignty since the War of 1812. “Talk Radio”  Aug 8, 2008
"There was a famous American naval captain of the War of 1812 who, when his ship went into battle, always wore a red shirt, so that if he was terribly wounded, his men would not see the blood and become demoralized. And now you know why I am wearing brown pants." There were titters in the audience, and a woman in a red suit sitting at a front table rolled her eyes. A poop joke. (The Atlantic Online)

Foreign Policy Lessons From Fighting Muslim Pirates  Aug 6, 2008
A decade later, with the U.S. distracted by the frustrating and inconclusive War of 1812 against Great Britain, the Barbary states again challenged American power, and President Madison sent ten new ships to restore order with another decisive campaign (known as The Second Barbary War, 1815) ... In fact, only five times in American history did Congress actually declare war the War of 1812, the Mexican War, The Spanish American War, World War I and World War II. None of the 135 other...
