To say that America s strong and unbreakable bonds with Israel are based upon cultural and historical ties negates a long history of Israel s being the only democracy in the Middle East and a relationship between allies that is much more than simply historical. But the bigger picture of the speech is that perhaps though Israel s bonds with the United States may be unbreakable, they are certainly malleable or easily put into storage for, say, eight years.
