New Role For The Ziegfeld  Jul 20, 2008
One of the city's few remaining single-screen movie houses, it is named for Florenz Ziegfeld, the flamboyant Broadway impresario portrayed by William Powell in the 1936 Hollywood musical "The Great Ziegfeld.". The theater has 1,100 seats, about the same number as Alice Tully. (New York Post -- Entertainment)

This Rat Pack in tune with their role models  Nov 24, 2007
But director Mitch Sebastian is no choreographer, and the little shimmies and stretches and wiggles for the Burellis grow repetitive and wearisome not to mention anachronistic, as if Florenz Ziegfeld had hired them for some 1920s Follies. Though no one's credited with the show's conception, it's exceedingly well structured, culminating in a comically delivered medley, an exuberant full company That's Life and the final return of Frankie, who puts out the lights with My Way. He is survived by his wife; daughters Cecilia Duncan, Florenz Crossley and Susan Plemons; son W. Robert Stephenson Jr.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (Los Angeles Times)

Aguilera leads fans on an ornamental journey  Mar 26, 2007
The most telling link between sound and image, however, occurred when she was all alone, singing in a white maillot-style outfit with a huge flowing skirt that left her sensational gams (as Florenz Ziegfeld might have said) visible at the front but not quite visible enough for her. She kept flipping the tail of the skirt back, a bird-like gesture of display that was perfectly suited to the intricate roulades coming out of her mouth. (Globe and Mail)

'The Art of Alberto Vargas: a Retrospective of Work From 1920-1975 - Paintings & Drawings From the Max Vargas Estate' Opens Mar. 31 at San Francisco Art Exchange, Whose Long Association With the Art of Vargas Dates Back to Their 1985 World  Mar 16, 2007
In 1934, they left the orbit of Florenz Ziegfeld and moved to Los Angeles, where Anna Mae's connection to Busby Berkeley led to Vargas' work creating set designs and portraits during Hollywood's golden era. She was by his side through his subsequent blacklisting from the film industry, his tenure with Esquire -- as well as his protracted legal fight to free himself from his onerous contract with that magazine -- and his years with Playboy, who published 152 Vargas paintings from 1960-1976. Last of Ziegfeld Girls Still Keeping the Rhythm at 102  Aug 31, 2006
Not only has Travis survived physically and mentally, but professionally as well, with annual appearances on Broadway, a small role in a Jim Carrey movie and her recent memoir, "The Days We Danced: The Story of My Theatrical Family From Florenz Ziegfeld to Arthur Murray and Beyond.". Back at her 400-acre ranch, about 10 miles northwest of the University of Oklahoma, Travis saunters around her 1970s rambler in a Southwest-inspired pantsuit and moccasins. (The Ledger)

BEYOND BIG BROTHER  Aug 7, 2006
"Xtravaganza" (2000) was a paean to great extravaganzas of the past, such as those of Busby Berkeley, Buffalo Bill and Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., a celebration of spectacle for spectacle's sake. "Jet Lag" (1998) used technology to capture the radical disconnect experienced by a round-the-world yacht racer actually traveling in circles and a grandmother who died after 167 back-to-back flights across the Atlantic. NEW DVD SET PROVES TOP TALENT IS STILL ROGERS  Jul 25, 2006
The earthy Rogers is extremely funny as a sausage manufacturer whose wife (played by Billie Burke, widow of Rogers' old boss, legendary producer Florenz Ziegfeld) becomes obsessed with acting. Well-directed by the journeyman David Butler, Rogers pointedly comments on a hilarious staged amateur theatrical, then performs himself in a screen test, in which Rogers devastatingly parodies Bing Crosby's singing style. 'Body Merchant' Packed Them In  Feb 12, 2006
He also wrote the song "Isle d'Amour" and sold it to his future competitor, Florenz Ziegfeld, for his Follies show. World War I interrupted one of Carroll's passions but reignited another: He became a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Service. (LA Times, CA -- California)
