Ghanaian democracy, and the freedom it accords the nations rich, to do anything, would make Thomas Paine squirm like a squid, and perhaps opt for Vladimir Putins iron-clad democratic system as the best democracy in the world. The response put forth by Thomas Payne ("Ideas in recent letter to the editor are crackpot opinion'," Dec. 11) to Ms. Woods' letter was abysmally mean-spirited from start to finish and was an utter antithesis of another Thomas Paine who wrote "Common Sense."
