Ellex Announces Six-Month Results on Retina Regeneration Therapy  Nov 10, 2008
About The Clinical Study In the clinical study conducted at St. Thomas' Hospital in London, 23 patients (38 eyes) with newly-diagnosed diabetic maculopathy were recruited and treated with Ellex 2RT. Seventeen patients (28 eyes) completed the six-month follow-up examination. Patients underwent treatment using the Ellex 2RT laser to deliver a modified macular grid pattern, guided by fluorescein angiography. (PR Newswire)

What is Cystoid Macular Edema?  Jul 27, 2008
Radiation: Prior irradiation to the eye or surrounding orbit can evoke a condition very similar to the maculopathy and CME found in diabetics. Others: Cytomegalovirus (frequently seen in AIDS patients or others who are immuno-compromised); orbital pseudotumor; retinitis pigmentosa; Coat s disease; certain genetic disorders, including a dominantly-inherited macular dystrophy. Integrated analysis of incidence, progression, regression and disappearance probabilities  Jun 25, 2008
Age-related maculopathy (ARM) is a leading cause of vision loss in people aged 65 or older. ARM is distinctive in that it is a disease which can transition through incidence, progression, regression and disappearance. (BioMed Central)

Ellex 2RT Study Demonstrates Clinical Efficacy in Treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema  Nov 11, 2007
Results demonstrate the therapy's potential to improve and stabilize visual acuity and to reduce retinal edema in patients with diabetic maculopathy and macular edema without causing any damage to the photoreceptors ... "The first phase clinical outcomes have confirmed Ellex 2RT's ability to treat diabetic maculopathy without damaging the neuro-retina," commented Professor John Marshall, principal investigator of the Ellex 2RT research program ... "This means that Ellex 2RT may change the way... (PR Newswire)

Denser Bones Tied to Healthier Eyes in Aging Women  May 30, 2007
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The denser an older woman's bones, the lower her risk of a sight-threatening condition known as age-related maculopathy (ARM), a new study shows. While it's not clear how bone mineral density (BMD) and ARM are connected, it's possible BMD may signal greater lifelong exposure to estrogen, which has been suggested to help guard against ARM, note Dr. Robin Seitzman of the David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles and colleagues. Common Genetic Variants Linked With Progression To Advanced Forms Of Age-related Macular Degeneration  Apr 26, 2007
It is believed that no previous studies have examined the relationships between common variations in these genes and progression from early or intermediate stages of maculopathy (disease in a part of the retina) to advanced forms of AMD associated with visual loss, according to background information in the article.
