Ng, the employee of the year for the EPD's patrol division in 2007, died Aug. 15 -- 11 years to the day from his EPD hire date -- from what is believed to be hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. He was 34. (Ellensburg Daily Record, WA)

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HPS, which is spread through the airborne urine, saliva or fecal material of infected deer mice, has been identified in 30 states during the last 14 years.
