Indiana U. at APHA: Studies about health education for people with ID, stability balls at work  Nov 8, 2009
EMG activity was measured in the quadriceps, hamstrings, anterior tibialis and gastrocnemious muscles in the legs. EMG activity was measured for muscle contraction onset, duration and intensity. (EurekAlert!)

MIT: Muscle 'synergies' may be key to stroke treatment  Oct 21, 2009
How they did it: The researchers, led by Emilio Bizzi, an MIT Institute Professor and a member of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research and the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, used electromyographic (EMG) recording to measure activity in arm and shoulder muscles of eight stroke patients as they performed a variety of reaching movements. The patients had stroke damage in one cortical hemisphere only, so one arm was impaired while the other was largely unaffected. (EurekAlert!)

Sight Unseen: People Blinded by Brain Damage Can Respond to Emotive Expressions  Oct 15, 2009
The authors showed them pictures of faces of people with happy or fearful expressions on either the right or left side of a computer screen while the patients kept their eyes fixed on the center of the screen, and measured the spontaneous change in their facial muscles via electromyography (EMG) ... 9 second to images in the blind visual field, according to the EMG recordings. (Scientific American)

Furthermore, all of these tools can be used with electromyography (EMG) sensors ... In other words, a screen will show a bunch of flat lines, with each line representing a muscle group with an EMG sensor attached to it. (University News, MO)

Necklace For Long-term And Robust Cardiac Monitoring In Daily Life  Sep 17, 2009
It copes with baseline wander, EMG (electromyogram) and motion artefacts, and high and variable electrode impedance. Heart beat is detected with 1 sample resolution. (Science Daily)

Considering 1/6 of our population doesn't have insurance--shouldn't the wait times for those who can't pay also be factored in? Nobody wants to factor those wait times into the American equation because we would look more like Canada if we did.I had to have an MRI of my neck done two years ago, after having problems with my arm going numb. My insurance company would only... (Montana Standard, MT)

Red Sox optimistic on Lowrie's injury  Aug 12, 2009
Lowrie underwent an electromyography (EMG) exam on Monday in Arizona from Dr. Donald Sheridan, who also performed his wrist surgery in April. "He came through the MRI and the EMG -- there's nothing there that we don't want to see," said manager Terry Francona. (MLB.com -- Boston Red Sox)

Red Sox’ Wakefield showing real improvement  Aug 11, 2009

Easy Strength Training Exercise May Help Treat Tennis Elbow, Study Shows  Jul 15, 2009
Electromyography (EMG) detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells, and can test nerve function. EMG can help physiatrists pin down. (Science Daily)

New Progress Against ALS  Jul 3, 2009
She limped in/out of offices for 6 months, always to get the same treatment; bloodwork and and EMG. All nuerologists seem to do this very well, but thats about it ... Finally, an EMG confirmed ALS. She still can walk, but is very unsteady and has a power chair she uses when she has to walk any distance. (CBS News)

Owie! Halt pizza burn, other pains  May 25, 2009
"It keeps your wrist neutral, which prevents further compression and irritation of the nerve," says Tanya J. Lehky, M.D., director of the Clinical EMG Lab at the NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. More stories from Men's Health. (MSNBC -- Health)

Ultra-thin Chip Embedding For Wearable Electronics  Mar 18, 2009
IMEC demonstrates the integration technology with a prototype flexible wireless monitor that measures the heart rate (electrocardiogram or ECG) and muscle activity (electromyogram or EMG). The system consists of an embedded ultra-thin chip for the microcontroller and analog-to-digital convertor, an ultra-low power biopotential amplifier chip and a radio transceiver. (Science Daily)

Study finds behavioral link between insomnia and tension-type headaches  Feb 15, 2009

New Surgical Technique Shows Promise For Improving Function Of Artificial Arms  Feb 15, 2009
The goal of this procedure is to improve control of prostheses that use electromyogram (EMG) signals (the electrical signals generated during muscle contraction) from residual limb muscles to control motorized arm joints. Once reinnervated (restore nerve function), these muscles provide physiologically appropriate EMG signals for control of the elbow, wrist, and hand. (Science Daily)
