Flooding threat eases in China Jun 8, 2008
A powerful quake in 1786 in another part of Sichuan dammed the Dadu River, which burst through the landslide 10 days later, killing more than 100,000 people, according to research published in 2005 in the scientific journal Geomorphology. The Tangjiashan lake is the largest of more than 30 created by last month's quake, and draining it safely will depend on controlling the outflow of water, said David Petley, a professor of geography at Britain's Durham University. Tidal Cycle Could Amplify Global-warming Related Sea-level Rises May 25, 2008
This is a virgin region completely unaffected by any human activity and bears the certainty that the slightest change observed in the geomorphology of that coast is natural in origin ... Thanks to a better awareness of the cyclic nature of the tides, probably one of the most predictable cyclic systems in the world, this research should, over the next 20 years, lead to a better understanding of coastal geomorphology and in particular the processes of coastal erosion. New Report On First Death By Spearing In Australia Jan 6, 2008
A study of the site s geomorphology by private consultant Dr Peter Mitchell, combined with the age of the skeleton, indicated that this event took place at a time of higher sea level, suggesting the body was left on the crest of a fore dune. This was an example of the type of good research which can be achieved in the context of cultural heritage management and an example of the exciting nature of archaeology in Sydney where unique finds can be preserved in urban contexts, Dr McDonald said. Indonesian mangroves and global warming Dec 14, 2007
Tidal forests contain distinctive vegetation zones, reflecting differences in the duration of inundation, the input of freshwater from the hinterland, salinity, geomorphology, human interference and other factors.
