    8 U.S. troops killed in Afghan blasts  Oct 28, 2009
    The Army C-12 Huron twin-engine turboprop had been missing since it crashed Oct. 13 while on a routine mission in Nuristan province, a Taliban insurgent stronghold. The plane went down less than two weeks after insurgents overran a coalition outpost the same province, killing eight American troops in one of the war's deadliest battles for the U.S..     In drafting the citation, Lt. Gen. Charles C. Campbell, the commander of 8th United States Army at the time of the incident, said, "Capt. Kevin M. Norman, distinguished himself by exceptionally heroic actions and extraordinary flying achievement while participating in aerial flight in service to the United States as Commander, A Company, 6th Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, 17th Aviation Brigade, Seoul Air Base, Korea.     "A C-12 Huron twin turboprop Navy plane picked us up at Ft. Lauderdale and flew us down to GTMO. It took nearly three hours to get there, given that we couldn't cut through Cuban air space and had to instead go around the east side of the Island. It was like a 400 mile trip. But what a beautiful landscape, with huge mountains and royal blue waters, once we approached the air strip.".
